January 2008 - SYNDICATE LAKE REPORT

Jan 22,2008

It’s been a busy winter at Bayeswater lakes, not so much fishing wise but certainly heavy vehicle wise.

We’ve got quite a busy road between the two lakes and across the top end of the day ticket shallows.

This road has given access to the heavy gravel works lorries, working on the new irrigation lake being excavated near Culverts Lake.  Unfortunately due to weight restrictions through Boreham Village and over the Chelmer road bridge, we have become part of the highway system.

Apparently the work is going to last about 2 years, I don’t know if that’s full blast or not but it could mean approximately 1 lorry every 15 mins.  It’s going to be dusty or typically English wet and slushy for a while.

This shouldn’t affect the day ticket lake but has made quite an impact on the syndicate lake.  With the new road, extra bank building and the aftermath of the landscaping that’s taking place we’ve got a lot of raw bank space again on the syndicate. The upside of this is not easy to see or imagine.

The idea is to get some extra water into the syndicate lake so we don’t  have such low water levels after the irrigation season.  The landscaping will also leave us with a much deeper topsoil level.  Before we only had a few inches of topsoil at best, even the grass didn’t grow very well.  When all the work is done we will end up with a much more lush bank side growth on the syndicate.  We will also be planting Norfolk reed all around the syndicate lake this spring.  At Fen Drayton and on the Essex Manor the Norfolk reed seems to grow well, hopefully it will do as well on the blue clay around the syndicate lake, I hope so.

I’ll update this as things progress, in the meantime I apologise for any disruption to your fishing.
