The lake hasn't been to busy what with the football etc but in a way that's been good as the carp have been very busy spawning. To be honest I prefer them to be left alone when they're busy spawning, especially the big-uns because they are often totally exhausted and week just after all the energy they spend.
Although they have just about got it all over with now even this weekend one or two fish were still at it, thrashing through the reeds. Other fish though were having a little feed up and there has been quiet a few out.
Both the big ones came out on the same weekend just prior to them spawning. Kevin Wicks had one of them at 35.06 and the other one came out at a new lake record at 36.06 to an angler called Steve, who hasn't sent me the pic's.
Since spawning they will have dropped a bit of weight and in fact when we netted last week we weighed one of them at 32 (see the picture with Amanda)
We removed 750 pound of smaller fish which will again make a difference to the bigger fish weights. We caught several of the bigger fish including the other 30 mirror, the big common and a lot of other 20's including several fish I didn't recognise. For me it was the best netting ever, especially as a survey of the fish stocks and I am very excited for the future now, there are lots of much better fish than I thought. Since I don't get to many photo's from everyone it's the only way I can gauge the lake's progress.
Mark Twin had 4 fish out the night after netting including 15 and 16 pounders. Mark (worm) had a 20lb common and other anglers had a few fish to 19 last weekend. One of the syndicate members had a cracking 21 out the other weekend, a fish I recognise as being 19 pound when Mark Twin caught it so even the slow growers are coming on. There's been other low 20's out since they started spawning and it won't be long before the bigger ones start coming out again as they finish up.
In all the lake is going in the right direction and I really do think it's going to be one of the best day ticket waters around in the future.
