Well, the netting proved a lot harder than we predicted, that's for sure. The fish were just to lively, escaping either under or over the net. Still, we persevered and eventually, after 3 days hard graft managed to catch about 250 or so fish "to go" for a total weight of 1,450 pound. That 1,450 pound of body weight should end up going on the remaining fish to push the average weight up a bit.
We did feel we only scratched the surface though. On one pull through the shallows there must of been more than 200 fish in the net at one time, but when we got the net the rest of the way in we only had about 20 left in it. The rest all escaped. That was the way it went throughout the three days, totally frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!
Since we finished the netting we have seen loads more little carp so I am going to net again this winter, when it's cold and the fish might be easier to catch. I'll post the dates on the web site as soon as they are confirmed. I really do want to increase the growth rate of the fish. There would be miles more 20's if they hadn't of bred so it's imperative that they are thinned out some more.
I've attached some pictures to give you an idea of the fish that have been removed. There wasn't time to accurately weigh or count each individual fish but we returned all the doubles we caught and removed all the ones under 10lb. If we weren't sure, double or not we returned them. We did get a few 1-2 pounders but the majority were 4-8lb.
Some were so pretty it was a shame to see them go but, if we want bigger fish we have to make room for them.
