Make The Most Of The Daylight!

May 04,2008

Now the evenings are getting a bit lighter its well worth the effort of nipping down the lakes for an hour or two.  I had 7 takes to my rods last week in three evenings last week.  I only reeled a couple in myself, my two helpers had the rest, just reward for a bit of digging.

Don't forget that the mornings are also light from about 5 ish now so a midweek all nighter isn't so much bother.  I personally don't like packing up in the dark after an all nighter but its pukka packing up in the early morning in the light before work after bagging a fish or two.

That's what my work mate, Chippy Dave did last week on the day ticket lake in the company of two other work mates, Lee and Luis.  Straight from work they were set up by early evening.  It was reasonable conditions with fish jumping all over the lake, "very exiting, just a pleasure to be outdoors" in Dave's words.  By morning Dave and his friends had all caught with Dave bagging the biggest at 19 lb, good arrow Dave.

This was not the first time Dave had seen this fish though as it is one of the fish out of the stock pond.  Dave was one of the team of anglers who helped on both days, the netting and a few days after on the drain down.  Even though we had a lot of fish out of the stock pond, 162 good ones, this is one of my favourite fish we moved.  As you can see, I made sure to hold and display this one on the moving day, because it is so beautiful.  We didn't weigh it as it went from one home to the other but guessed it to be about 16 lb.  I am usually not far of guessing their weights so it has done pretty well to get up to 19 lb so I hope it will soon be up in the 20's.  Not that it matters so much when they look like that.  Dave had the 19 on first light and managed to catch a lovely, moody sun rise as well as a stunning carp.

So, don't sit in front of them telly's all week, get out and catch some fish, they feed every day you know, not just at the weekends..!!!
