Aaron Williams and Darren Allain fished last Sunday
day time and caught an incredible number of fish between them. When I
arrived, with my new camera, Darren was busy playing one of his fish, a
pretty little common, seen here.
Once the fish was returned I enquired how many the
duo had caught. They had lost count at 25 fish, incredible!!! they caught
3 while I was there.
Now I think I know what I am doing with the floater
gear but when someone looses count how many fish they have caught in a day I'm
all eyes and ears, so I stayed long enough to do some spying!!
These two really impressed me with their seagull
trick which was to put some floaters out with a throwing stick. This
seemed to send the gulls out further, out of the way long enough to catch the
next fish, very crafty that. Even just waving the throwing stick side to
side had the same effect. Until I saw it I wouldn't of believed it would
work. They had also come prepared with enough floaters to feed the ducks
of, which is a trick I know, although on Sunday the ducks were not a problem but
still exceptional angling to come prepared.
To keep catching throughout their session they had
to keep changing their hook baits, alternating from pellet banded pellets to
pop-ups and other little rig and bait changes.
Taking it in turns to feed or catch the next fish
also kept the fish going without the pressure of lines constantly in
the swim. In fact there just didn't seem to be any hurry to keep
even one rod out, which let the fish get more confident so the take was
quicker. As I've said these two anglers were very impressive. Even
when they had a take there was no panicking, simply letting the fish hook them
selves, really casual!!
All I can say is well fished and thanks for the
lesson. Cheers Darren and Aaron.
There was a lot of fish caught from Saturday
to Sunday this week, approximately 30-40 fish as well as what Darren and Aaron
caught. It seems they have had enough of spawning now and have been
feeding up a bit. I just came back from the lakes tonight and
saw several feeding fish working out in the margins on the syndicate bank, the
stock pond bank and of course in the shallows. There was also a lot of
fish cruising about in the open water which would of definitely been catchable
on the floaters.
It still surprises me that there is hardly anyone
fishing mid week. There is loads of time to catch a few in the evenings
this time of year, and the mornings are plenty light enough even for an early
pack up to get to work on time. I know there is a lot of good
opportunities to catch plenty of fish mid week but not many people take
advantage of it. Shame really!!!
Any way, that's it for now, look forward to seeing
more and more fish caught now they are back on it!!
