I don't actually agree with set work parties on any lake and hardly ever go to them as there is usually no set plan of action.
Well, here are some dates for the Syndicate swim building exercise. 12th, 25th and 26th of July.
The aim is to build swims out towards the lake a bit so there is room to fish further from the electric cables on the road bank, swims 1, 2 and 3.
This should of been done a while back but I have been to busy to contemplate organising anything.
The plan is to build the swims with rail way sleepers at the front and sides, held in place with scaffold poles driven into the ground. This hopefully, should only take one day to build.
The inside of the swims will be filled with some of the waste from the edges of the track. This can be done evenings or on the dates above. It's best done gradually so it has time to settle.
The swims will then be topped of with top soil and seeded. This can be done later when there is better seed growing weather although I might try covering the seed with clear plastic which is how I kick started my first ever lawn.
The outside of the swims will be planted with a low growing reed which I can get from the meadow next door from the lake. This should shroud the sleepers but not grow to high to be a nuisance. They also spread well and can tolerate the poor soil. This is best done as soon as possible on the dates above so they can get rooted ready for when the lake is re-filled to prevent them being washed out. I will have a van or my car and trailer handy to fetch the reeds in. So whenever you are about after they are planted please give them a bit of water.
Sounds easy doesn't it? If there is time I also want to plant more reeds and stuff around the lakes. I have done a bit but the bloody geese are eating away at it all. I'm going to fence any new planting in the future on the syndicate lake, possibly we might have time to do a bit of this on the days above. Even if we don't get much planting done I recon I'll build some anti-geese enclosures where we can plant some vegitation as soon as possible.
So there you have it, a plan that should be easy enough to follow. As I've said, work parties are a bind but if anyone wants to help, syndicate or day ticket members, I will be grateful for sure. If you cant make any of the dates but still want to do a bit there might be some swim filling left to do, watering or something.
As long as I can get the heavy tools work finished I'll be happy, the rest will only be fork, shovel, spade and barrow stuff.
Cheers
Gary
