I know there have been a good few fish out since the last report about 3-4 weeks ago but have very little information. Just on the time I wrote the last episode they were spawning which means they lose a bit of weight, laying eggs and generally thrashing the water to a foam. Since then though there has been more 20's out in the period since spawning than there was last year which re-affirms that the decision to remove the little ones was right. Hopefully there will be many more 20's in the next few weeks as they recover from spawning and pack the weight back on. Certainly most of the 17 pound plus fish should do it and have a better opportunity to carry on growing.Fair enough there are less fish to catch now but quality rather than quantity is the aim. That said, Russell, one of the regulars, had at least 9 fish last Saturday afternoon 'til Sunday morning. I happened past with the camera as he was playing the one on this report. You can see there is still evidence of spawning damage but that will soon heal up. The angler who I only know as Worm (I hope his mum doesn't mind!!) has also caught several fish including a PB 22 pound common recently. He is seen here though with a PB 24.12 mirror because I have not been sent the pic's of the common yet. Well angled Worm. ![]() That's it for now, except to prompt you all to get fishing down the lake. When I walked round on Sunday they were feeding in the margins, ideal for a bit of stalking or quick mid-week sessions. Gary |
