I haven’t had much time lately to keep this site updated. The fishing’s been a bit patchy, good times and bad, typical springtime fishing.Lee who works for me did a night two weeks ago and blanked. There just wasn’t much happening at all that weekend. I did see a 19 pounder get caught, the photo’s are on the way to me apparently, too late for this news item but OK for the picture gallery later. Lee’s a good angler, I won’t tell you his fishing credentials but it includes several 40’s and I think 4 fifties all from the UK. Lee’s blank just goes to prove how difficult springtime fishing can be. Really I shouldn’t tell you about the hard times, I should be larging it up about the good times only. The point is that blanks do happen no matter how good an angler is, lets face it I blank as well so it isn’t all a bed of roses, it’s simply fishing, tee hee hee. On the bright side I fished for one hour the same weekend, Sunday evening and managed two fish from the shallows, one about 14lb and the other about 4lb. There has been a few 4 pounder’s out lately, the pesky blighters. These fish must be homebred babies because none of the original stock was anyway near that small. I know last year when I fish on the float I caught quite a few 4-6 inch baby carp. I hate to think how many babies we might have now. In fact I seriously think a test netting next winter might be a good idea with a view to thinning down the stock of babies, selling them to then buy some bigger fish. I’ll keep you posted because we’ll need some help. ![]() ![]() Anyway you have just read about the downs of carp fishing, blanking and all that. There have also been some good days. James, seen here with a 22lb mirror and a 19lb common, had a hectic 48 hours, catching a total of 31 carp. He even reeled in at around 3am due to tiredness. I know the feeling James, as much as we all wish for them, these mad action days can wear you out. All of James fish came to boilie hook baits with a variety of ground baits, boilie free offerings and pellet freebies. James tried maggots but got silver fished out. The roach, rudd, perch and tench have finally woken up, making carp fishing with maggots very difficult. It isn’t just James who caught a few, last Saturday night, 28th April, every angler caught, which is how it should be. Hopefully this will continue. Certainly the fishing has been easier with less hard days, which we predicted, but will it keep up? I hope so. I’ll try to do a catch up with one or two success stories in a few days time if the pictures come through. In the meantime get yourself fishing, things are hotting up. Gary Bayes |
