Bayeswater day ticket progress report April 08

Since the introduction of the 170 odd fish from the stock pond the fishing has been a bit hectic on the day ticket lake. I have heard of several reports where anglers have had more than 10 fish in a day.I had to visit China for work from the 30th of March to the 10th of April and had to listen to reports of fish coming out thick and fast, typical, I really do need to get out fishing myself. While I was away the weather brightened up a bit and there was over 150 fish out of the day ticket lake. Since my return to the UK the weather has turned rubbish again, frost, rain, snow, wind etc, but still the lake is producing. Some of the stocked 20’s have been out, the best being a new personal best for Modestas Linkevicius at 25lb 6oz (see the pictures sent to me on this site). There was another out at 24lb 12oz just last weekend to young Anthony, one of the syndicate members. Anthony struggled the first day of his session, after wrongly choosing to fish the shallows on what turned out to be a cold weekend. However, after witnessing another angler catching fish after fish a bit further round in the main lake area a quick move proved worthwhile. He had 4 straight away in the evening, a quite night and then a double figure common followed by the 24lb 12oz mirror. It just goes to prove that the fish will keep feeding even in the cold conditions; you just have to find them. Its not only the new 20’s that have been coming out, there’s been some of the original out, commons and mirrors, including a 22 pound mirror that both me and Steve the bailiff have caught at mid double figures, just the result we are striving to achieve, home grown fish. Those of you that have been to the lake lately will have seen the re-landscaping that is going on. We was hoping it would off been finished by now but circumstances beyond our control have delayed it all. In the long run the site will be much better than before it is just taking longer than planned. Please be patient with this, the high banks, better top soil and base will eventually be much better than the old blue clay with a dusting of top soil we had. The heavy vehicle traffic is also a pain in the butt, chewing the track up in the wet, churning dust up in the dry. Both the farmer and I are on the gravel company’s case about the track, almost non-stop. Neither of us is very impressed at the moment but we will keep trying. In the mean time drive with caution, especially when the track is deeply rutted. Try to keep your wheels on high ground. I have been able to get down the track in the worst state possible, since then though even the farmers, David and Steve have done a few repairs, when they could not get a response from the gravel company. This on going drama with the track is a pain, and I am very sorry about it. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience but we will try to rectify it all in the future. I have noticed that the left hand bank, or the syndicate side bank is holding water and is very soggy and smelly where the water has started to rot the grass. I have dug some drainage ruts to let the water of this area and already it is a bit dryer, I’m not sure what to do next, the farmer has offered to add a gradient to help drainage and it might need to have some of the punched drainage pipe put in. Whatever, for the time being, be careful not to trip in the drainage ruts. Same old moan, no pictures received at all, so I am leaving this on my computer for a day or two in the vain hope that something turns up. It has, pictures of two 25’s and a 16 out of the day ticket and two 30’s out of the syndicate. We caught 5 carp while we was digging the trenches but only photographed one nice double caught by Jack, one of my helpers. That’s just about up to date on the happenings down Bayeswater at the moment, please email any news to me if you catch, or even have a moan or two. Sorry again for the inconvenience of the work going on down the lakes. ![]() |
